Of the Club’s acquaintance
Aziz

Aziz

Xerxes's companion, constant at his side; a fixture no one enquires into.

Aziz came to Cairnholm with Xerxes Hartfield and has been constant at his side since — companion is the word the household uses, and the household uses it comfortably, having no other. He is watchful, soft-spoken, and still in the way of a man who has decided exactly how much of himself to spend in company, which is not much.

He wears, on a cord at his throat, the Maharaja's Sapphire — a stone notorious by reputation across three counties, and a curiosity in such keeping; how it came to him is a question the household has agreed, courteously, never to put. He is a fixture no one enquires into, in a town that enquires into everything; this is generally accounted a testament to his manners, and possibly to theirs.
